Grace is a young, successful journalist living in Washington who is about to marry a young politician’s fiancé. One day, he encounters strange music in the taxi, causing him to be struck by powerful flashes of memory and emotional waves, until he is eventually hospitalized with nerve-wracking symptoms. Although there is no clear diagnosis and his doctors explain the case with stress, Grace continues to suffer from excruciating pains and spooky fantasies. Each such attack brings another shred of memory to the surface, and Grace begins to suspect that everything she has known about herself is a lie, and there is more to her story, her family background, than she might have previously guessed. What secrets can your parents keep? What secrets can you hide from yourself? When Grace finally finds out that she was found in a refugee camp in the turmoil of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and her parents subsequently adopted her, she sets off for Tehran to look for her roots.
