Steps of surprise

This rich and diverse collection of essays is an imprint of the long journey the author has taken in the world of literature, cinema, alternative rock music, painting, photography and philosophy over the past decade and a half. The most striking feature of the volume of fifty writings is the combination of Eastern and Western thought. This is not surprising, as Szabolcs Tornai's first book, The World as a Misconception, also reveals hidden connections between the two cultures in his philosophical work, also published by Gondolat Publishing House and published for the second time this autumn. Just as the title piece in the essay volume is an in-depth analysis of Antonioni’s famous film Magnification in the Light of Buddhist Philosophy, so in most of the writings in the volume does Tornai approach various Western works from a Buddhist teaching perspective.
